Deacon Osagie Orumwense (Diaspora Achievement in Energy Award, 2014)

Deacon Osagie Orumwense is a seasoned drilling / completion and workover professional, with over 26 years experience in land, swamp and offshore operations. He is currently the Senior drilling / Lead Supervisor, on the Sahara Energy Group Land Rig I in Nigeria.

In his expert capacity, he has supervised drilling of vertical, deviated and horizontal wells in exploration, appraisal and development projects. He was one of the first Nigerian Fishing Professionals.

A Chemical Engineering graduate of the University of Benin in Edo State, Nigeria; Deacon Orumwense is skilled in drilling and completion out of a Dual Bore Starter Head (DBSH) – involving two wells within one slot (each well having its own Unitized Well Head), and horizontal / deviated wells from Producing Platforms of not less than 12 development horizontal wells, some with high collission risks (encountering separation factors less than 1.5).

Not only is he skilled in drilling, but he is also experienced in supervising Nitrogen Lifting operations, open-hole completions, slick line operations, including fishing operations and platform extension construction, to accommodate more wells on existing platforms.

To his credit was the Supervision of rig (GSF134), which was rated the best rig in Petronas and Transocean operations in Malaysia, for the entire duration the said rig worked. The rig achieved zero LTI and Non-recordable accident for more than 3 years, as well as the supervision of the drilling of the fastest horizontal well (Ogbotobor-9) in Shell Petroleum Development Company in Nigeria in 1998.

A member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (S.P.E.) and Nigerian Society of Engineers (N.S.E.), Deacon Orumwense is very conscious of the environment and believes that attaining a high Safety, Health & Environmental awareness is the optimum to save our environment.
