Engr. Obi Timothy Nwasike (Diaspora Business & Entrepreneur, 2014)
Engr. Obi T. Nwasike is the CEO of Chester Mead & Associates Ltd., a Nigerian engineering design and project management company, delivering design solutions to local and international oil companies in Nigeria, as well as participating in the supply of manpower to clients in the Niger Delta region.
He has a Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering Science from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena; a First Class B.Sc. Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wales, Swansea, UK. In his graduation year in 1976, Engr. Nwasike earned the British Institute of Mechanical Engineers Prize for the best graduating student in the University of Wales system.
He has over 30 years in international hydrocarbon development of which 13 years has been in facilities and process engineering design and operations, 10 years in technical project management and 7 years in organizational leadership.
His twenty-two year career in Shell was occupied with responsibility for creating new ways of working in delivering Front-End engineering designs, Quality Control Methodology, Cost Estimating Methods and introducing new technology applications for oil and gas projects. A particular success story was the placement of multiphase boosting technology that enabled up to forty percent reduction in field development costs onshore Nigeria.
In his entrepreneurial capacity, he participated in the creation of a number of companies such as:
- the Frontier Oil Limited, a marginal oilfield company that is developing Uquo field in OML 13 of Nigeria’s onshore area, where he also functioned as a non-executive director between 2002 and 2008; and the
- Alpha Mead Facilities & Management Services Limited (AMF), which is in a joint-venture partnership with Newmark GMS of New Jersey USA and London England, which handles the delivery of real estate operating phase services and creating new paradigms in this service area in Nigeria. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors in a non-executive role since December 2006.
He is the non-executive President of the Hillsyke Foundation, a non-governmental organization that is catering for widows and orphans in South-South and South-East areas of Nigeria.
A proud job creator of about 400 employees in his company’s subsidiaries in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa; with an annual turnover of 1.1 billion Naira in 2013 financial year, Chester Mead Associates Ltd. is also an international known name with international partners such as the XPerion Energy and Environment GmbH of Kassel in Germany, and the Cluttons UK company, who are all specialist in environmental business.
Very conscious of Corporate Social responsibilities, Chester Mead Associates Ltd. Has since 2005 offered 100 educational scholarships to orphans and children of widows in their primary and secondary schools in Lagos, South East and South-South Nigeria.
Moving forward, Engr. Nwasike is currently developing a power and gas company; NOVANTUS GAS AND POWER COMPANY LIMITED to supply gas to South East Nigeria with operations starting in late 2015.
According to Engr. Nwasike, he has added value to business development efforts over the years. A feat which has been achieved through his large network of contacts in the Nigerian and international oil and gas industry.
